RRAC track & field athletes of the week for April 17-23

WACO, Texas -- RRAC Track & Field Athletes of the Week have been announced for the dates of April 17-23 with this week's honorees including Jose Zarate (men's track - Our Lady of the Lake), Jonathan Sanchez (men's field - OLLU), and Kennedy Villalpando (women's track - OLLU). This is the seventh and final set of RRAC track & field weekly awards for the 2023 outdoor season.

Zarate placed fifth overall in the men's 1,500-meter run at Rice University's (Texas) J. Fred Duckett Twilight Invite on Saturday. The graduate long distance runner from Mentone Beach, Calif., set a new OLLU record with a time of 14:56.41.

Sanchez established a new school record in the javelin with a mark of 55.54 meters. The graduate thrower from McAllen, Texas, qualified for the NAIA national championships by achieving the national "B" standard.

Villalpando competed in the women's 800-meter run at the Rice event. The freshman middle- and long-distance runner from Weslaco, Texas, posted a time of 2:19.17 on Saturday.
