ABOUT THE RRAC

Each of the Red River Athletic Conference institutions is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, a governing body supervising athletic programs at participating colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada. Active membership in the NAIA is open to four-year and upper-level two-year regionally accredited not-for-profit colleges and universities that award the bachelor's (baccalaureate) degree or its equivalent.  Included among RRAC member institutions are both publicly funded university branch campuses and small independent colleges and universities that include athletic programs as a part of their comprehensive student-life programs.

The RRAC promotes the education and development of students through intercollegiate athletics participation, academic achievement, and character development. The NAIA Champions of Character,  an innovative outreach program designed to instill character values in student-athletes and coaches,  contains five core values embraced by each RRAC member institution.

Respect:  Those associated with sport demonstrate respect by treating themselves, other persons, institutions and their sport according to the highest standards of conduct through civilized and gracious behavior to players, coaches, fans, and parents.

Responsibility:  Responsible athletes make academic progress toward graduation a primary priority. They solve problems rather than make excuses and are reliable team players. Students are held accountable for their actions and decisions, and coaches and administrators maintain high standards of competence and conduct.

Integrity:  Student competitors and coaches demonstrate integrity by keeping commitments and behaving honestly. RRAC coaches subscribe to and practice the NAIA Coaches Code and Code of Ethics, and RRAC student-athletes know, understand, and abide by the Champions of Character Student-Athlete Pledge.

Servant Leadership:  Servant-leaders place primary focus on the health of a group, demonstrating responsibility for individual and collective roles while performing at the highest personal level. Servant-leaders strive to become personal and team leaders while being engaged in campus and community service.

Sportsmanship:  Administrators, coaches, fans parents and students are expected to act appropriately even when others do not, and demonstrate fairness and equity in all contests and relationships.

It is the explicit purpose of the RRAC to provide a community of member institutions that share a commitment to vigorous and principled competition between teams of student athletes who represent their colleges and universities well.  Each member institution is required to support and field a balanced program of student athletics competing in at least one RRAC sanctioned sport in the fall, one in the winter, and one in the spring including teams of both men and women in each season.

The RRAC is committed to the NAIA's RISE/DEI program. All individual member schools are in support of advancing these programs on their campuses.

RRAC sanctioned sports include the following:
Fall: Cross Country, Soccer, Volleyball
Winter:  Basketball
Spring:  Baseball, Softball, Track & Field, Golf, Tennis

RRAC member institutions are located across a three-state region that includes Texas, Louisiana and New Mexico.  Efforts are made to establish and maintain divisional groupings within sports to facilitate as little disruption of class schedules as possible while accomplishing the travel that is necessary for athletic competition.
