WACO, Texas – Competing in its third year in the conference, Xavier University (La.) captured its first Red River Athletic Conference All-Sports Award as the champion for the 2023-24 sport seasons. Xavier was able to supplant Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) after finishing as the runner-up in each of its first two years in the RRAC.
The All-Sports Award is given annually to the RRAC athletic program that performs best across the conference's sports in a given academic year. Points are awarded to the top five teams in regular season conference standings using a 10-8-6-4-2 scoring system, while results in conference tournaments and championship events merit additional points on a 5-4-3-2-1 basis. In sports such as tennis, track & field, golf and cross country, postseason team finishes are awarded regular season and postseason points. A sport must have at least four schools participating and compete in an RRAC tournament to qualify for inclusion in point calculations.

Xavier's point totals were bolstered by the addition of soccer programs this year. In their inaugural seasons, the women's team won the RRAC regular season title and the men's team placed third. The Gold Rush/Gold Nuggets also added conference championships in women's tennis and men's and women's track & field. They were second in the regular season standings for volleyball and women's basketball, while finishing third in men's basketball and men's cross country.
While not included in the sport totals, Xavier also claimed the NAIA affiliate group championship in men's tennis. The school's tennis and track & field teams will be competing in national tournaments.
"We are proud of the work our teams have done this year and will continue to do as we close out this competition season," says Xavier athletic director Pat Kendrick.
