UHV's Gutierrez, Jones selected for RRAC baseball weekly honors

WACO, Texas – Rafael Gutierrez of the University of Houston-Victoria (Texas) claimed the RRAC Baseball Player of the Week award for March 24-30, while UHV's Jonathan Jones was tabbed as the RRAC Pitcher of the Week for the same dates. This is the 10th set of weekly winners for the 2025 RRAC baseball season.

Gutierrez powered the 10th-ranked Jaguars to a 4-0 week. The graduate first baseman/outfielder from Jacksonville, Fla., homered on three of his five hits. That included a game-tying, three-run shot in the eighth inning of a 6-5 win over NCAA Division I Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi on Tuesday to complete a season sweep of the Islanders. Gutierrez also added blasts in both of the first two games against Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) en route to a three-game sweep. All five of his home runs this season have come in the fifth inning or later, and four have either given UHV the lead of tied the game. Gutierrez finished the week with six RBIs and five runs scored. The Jaguars improved to 17-4 in conference play and 29-7 on the season.

Jones hurled a complete-game, four-hitter against HT on Saturday for his third shutout of the season. The senior right-hander from Manvel, Texas, tied his season-high with 11 strikeouts and retired the first 12 batters of the game in order to earn his seventh win of the season. Jones' 1.71 ERA leads the RRAC, and his 81 strikeouts rank third nationally behind UHV's Brady Parker and Isaac Rohde of LSU Shreveport (La.). UHV set a new program record for shutouts in a season with seven.
