Anderson, Turner capture RRAC men's hoops player of the week awards
WACO, Texas – Taj Anderson of LSU Shreveport (La.) tied a school record en route to the RRAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week award, while Seviuhn Turner of Xavier University (La.) earned the RRAC Defensive Player of the Week honor for the same dates. This is the 13th set of weekly awards for the 2024-25 men's basketball season.
Anderson matched a school mark with 53 points in a win over Paul Quinn College (Texas). The senior guard from Queens, N.Y., posted the highest single-game total in the NAIA this season in the process. Anderson was 16-of-21 from the field including 10-of-15 from three-point range and a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line. He averaged 31.0 points per game and made 16 three-pointers in a 2-1 week for the Pilots. Anderson leads the RRAC with 20.2 points per game this season. LSUS improved to 11-8 in conference play and 14-9 overall.
Turner propelled the Gold Rush to a 3-0 week while tightening up the defense on two of the conference's top scorers. The junior guard/forward from Baton Rouge, La., limited Anderson to 13 points and held the RRAC's second-highest scorer, Devin Carter of Louisiana Christian University, to 15 while LCU scored 42 as a team. Turner, who ranks seventh in the RRAC in steals, collected three more and blocked two shots.
