Xavier duo, HT's Spriggins collect RRAC volleyball weekly awards
WACO, Texas – Kamea Uitenham of Xavier University (La.) earned recognition as the RRAC Volleyball Attacker of the Week for Oct. 28-Nov. 3. Elaina Spriggins of Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) was named RRAC Setter of the Week, and Xavier's Taylor Parker was selected as the RRAC Defender of the Week for the same dates. This is the 11th set of weekly winners for the 2024 RRAC volleyball season.
Uitenham produced a career-high and Xavier season-high for any player with 23 kills in the Gold Nuggets' match with Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) on Friday. The freshman outside hitter from Hutto, Texas, posted kill-dig doubles in both matches as Xavier split with OLLU in their two matches with both going to five sets. Uitenham also recorded a career-best four blocks while averaging 3.8 kills per set. The Gold Nuggets sit in third place in the RRAC at 11-3 with an overall mark of 14-14.
Spriggins averaged 7.4 assists per set in a 1-2 week for the Rams. The junior setter from Dickinson, Texas, posted 72 assists (8.0 per set) as HT split a pair of matches against Jarvis Christian University (Texas). Spriggins is fourth in the RRAC with 6.8 assists per set this season. HT sits at 6-10 in conference play and 6-18 overall heading into the final week of the season.
Parker recorded 15 total blocks in the series with OLLU to shatter the Xavier season record. The sophomore middle blocker from Charlotte surpassed the old record of 115 and now stands at 123. Parker averaged 1.5 blocks per set in the back-to-back matches. She ranks 18th in the nation with 1.23 blocks per set this season.
