RRAC volleyball players of the week announced for Oct. 7-13

WACO, Texas – Kaitlyn Cabral of Texas A&M University-Texarkana was recognized as the RRAC Volleyball Attacker of the Week for Oct. 7-13. Bengisu Kazazlar of Xavier University (La.) collected the RRAC Setter of the Week award, and Tina Trevino of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) won the RRAC Defender of the Week honor for the same dates. This is the eighth set of weekly winners for the 2024 RRAC volleyball season.  

Cabral powered home 29 kills in the Eagles' two-match sweep of Paul Quinn College (Texas). The sophomore outside hitter from Redding, Calif., averaged 4.1 kills per set including 20 kills in a 3-1 victory in the second match. Cabral finished with a .492 hitting percentage and 22 digs. She is second in the RRAC with 220 kills this season. TAMUT sits at the top of the conference at 9-1 with a 13-10 record on the season.

Kazazlar directed a Gold Nuggets offense that hit .223 in a two-match sweep of Huston-Tillotson University (Texas). The sophomore setter from Izmir, Turkey, posted an average of 7.7 assists per set while compiling 28 assists against HT on Friday. Kazazlar is third in the conference with 7.4 assists per set for the season. Xavier jumped to 6-2 in the RRAC standings and 6-12 overall.

Trevino continues her run of awards with 48 digs in a pair of wins over Louisiana Christian University. The senior libero from Laredo, Texas, propelled the Saints with an average of 8.0 digs per set. Trevino leads the conference with 471 digs and 6.3 per set. OLLU improved to 7-1 in conference play and 14-7 on the season.
