BIO:

Elinor Smith was one of the greatest two-sport student-athletes in the history of the RRAC, and possibly the single best. From 2000-04, Smith collected six all-conference selections (three in basketball and three in volleyball) and four NAIA All-American honors (two in each sport) at Houston Baptist University (Texas).

As a member of the Huskies' women's basketball team, Smith averaged 13.8 points and 8.5 rebounds per game for her career while sinking 64.2% of her shots from field goal range. She was named 2004 RRAC Women's Basketball Player of the Year.

During her career, the Huskies were 130-21 with three straight 33-win campaigns in Smith's final three seasons. HBU won four RRAC titles and went to four NAIA national tournaments with appearances in one Sweet 16, two quarterfinals and one Final Four.

Smith is third on the all-time HBU scoring list, second in rebounds and first in all-time field goal percentage.

As a standout for HBU's volleyball team, Smith averaged 2.72 kills and 1.71 blocks per set with a .394 hitting percentage over three seasons. In 2003, she was named both  the RRAC Defensive Specialist of the Year and the Front Row Specialist of the Year. The Huskies were a combined 125-19 during Smith's career with three RRAC titles, two NAIA Region VI titles, and three NAIA national tournament appearances. HBU was the national runner-up in 2002.

She ranks eighth in career kills at HBU, second in solo blocks and fifth in block assists.

Smith was inducted into the HBU Sports Hall of Honor in 2007 for both sports.

Presently, Smith is teaching art and coaching basketball and volleyball at Bridgeland High School in Cypress, Texas.

“Elinor undoubtedly is one of the finest student-athletes in the history of our school," says Ron Cottrell, HBU's Athletic Director from 1993-2009. "As talented as she was on the floor in two sports, she was an even better student, teammate and person.

"Being able to excel in not just one, but two sports here at HBU fully translated to her life after college, as she has gone on to be a teacher and coach, mentoring and changing the lives of young people. She is a great addition to the RRAC Hall of Fame.”
