Sixth-seeded LCU, Seventh-seeded USW advance to RRAC men's basketball tourney semifinals

ALEXANDRIA, La. – Two of the top three seeds fell in the quarterfinal round at the 2025 RRAC Men's Basketball Tournament at Laborde Earles Coliseum. No. 6 Louisiana Christian and No. 7 Southwest pulled off first-day upsets, while top-seeded LSU Alexandria and No. 4 Texas A&M-Texarkana stayed alive.

In Saturday's semifinals, LCU and USW will play at 1 p.m. followed by LSU Alexandria and TAMUT at 3 p.m.

Following are the quarterfinals summaries:

Texas A&M-Texarkana 87, LSU Shreveport 64

In the early morning game, TAMUT claimed a victory over LSU Shreveport by an 88-67 score. The Eagles, seeded fourth, overcame the Pilots, improving their season record to 20-9.

From the outset, the Eagles set a high-paced tempo and, by halftime, they held an eight-point lead at 42-34. TAMUT opened the second half on a 10-0 run and never looked back. Raymond Moore and Deovaunta Williams led the scoring charge with 22 points eaach, while Doreante Tucker, Daryl Houston and Payton Chism also scored in double-figures. Moore was nearly perfect shooting on 8-of-9 field goal attempts and 4-of-4 free throws.

With this win, TAMUT advanced to tomorrow's semifinals. 

Louisiana Christian 72, Our Lady of the Lake 67

In the second quarterfinal at the  Red River Athletic Conference Basketball Tournament, No. 6 Louisiana Christian overcame No. 3 Our Lady of the Lake by a final score of 72-67, to proceed to the semifinal round.

Despite trailing at halftime with a score of 30-26, the Saints, under the guidance of Coach Marcus Thompson, showcased strong defensive tactics and an impressive shooting performance in the second half. This wasn't enough, however, to suppress the determined Wildcats. Louisiana Christian's effective play and resolve, led by standout performances from Kevin Wiltz, who scored a game-high 19 points, and Devin Carter, with 16 points, propelled them to victory. Carter, in addition to his scoring, contributed eight rebounds and four three-pointers.

Southwest 75, Xavier 67 (ot)

Southwest upended Xavier again as they met in the RRAC quarterfinals for the second consecutive year. The Mustangs, seeded No. 7, needed a 12-2 edge in overtime to succeed again, 75-67. Last year, they upset Xavier, 75-65, as the No. 6 seed en route to the tournament final.

The Mustangs held a 31-28 lead at the half behind Jacob Koontz who posted a double-double with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Anthony Scott chipped in 17 points, while Rahkiem Petterson had 12 points and 12 boards.

Trailing for much of the second half, Xavier rallied to force overtime behind 22 points and five three-pointers from Lance Williams. Wayne Randall-Bashay and James Weather also scored in double figures.

The Mustangs will face Louisiana Christian on Saturday, looking to go on another tournament run.

LSU Alexandria 77, Huston-Tillotson 66

Defending champion LSU Alexandria pulled away from eighth-seeded Huston-Tillotson in a 77-66 victory on .

The Generals entered halftime with a slight lead of 36-30 and maintained their momentum to clinch the win. EJ McQuillan, a standout performer, led the scoring for the Generals with 18 points, supported by Jakemin Abney who contributed 13 points. Isaiah Howard was pivotal on the defensive end, securing 11 rebounds and making key plays that dampened the Rams' scoring opportunities. Jordan Decuir also added 14 points for the No. 1 seed in t he tournament and nation's No. 2-ranked team.

Huston-Tillotson kept the game close with Ja'Patrick Blackmon scoring 16 points and Braelon Seals chipping in 15.
