Xavier's Campbell, PQC's Brown tabbed as RRAC women's hoops players of the week

WACO, Texas – Joy Campbell of Xavier University (La.) captured the RRAC Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week award for Feb. 10-16, while Zaire Brown of Paul Quinn College (Texas) was selected as the RRAC Defensive Player of the Week for the same dates. This is the 15th set of weekly awards for the 2024-25 women's basketball season.

Campbell tied a 36-year-old school record with 15 assists in the Gold Nuggets' 96-70 victory at University of the Southwest (N.M.) on Saturday. The graduate guard from Fontana, Calif., also dished out 10 assists in a road loss to Paul Quinn College (Texas) to become the first Xavier woman since 1996 to compile 10 or more assists in consecutive games. For the week, Campbell had a 4:1 assist-to-turnover ratio. She leads the RRAC and ranks seventh in the NAIA with 6.2 assists per game this season. The Gold Nuggets are ranked 21st in the NAIA at 25-2 with a 22-2 conference mark.

Brown compiled six steals and five blocked shots in a 1-1 week for the Tigers. The junior forward from Richmond, Calif., also had 13 defensive rebounds for the week and 17 total. Brown's line in PQC's 76-75 upset of Xavier was 10 points, 12 rebounds, three steals and two blocks. She is eighth in the RRAC with 26 blocks this season. The Tigers improved to 9-13 in conference play and 10-15 overall.
