LSUA's Dominguez de Leon, LCU's Silva earn RRAC men's soccer weekly awards with quarterfinal performances
WACO, Texas – Pablo Dominguez de Leon of LSU Alexandria (La.) received the RRAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award for Nov. 4-10, while Rodrigo Silva of Louisiana Christian University was named the RRAC Defensive Player of the Week for the same dates. This is the 12th and final set of conference winners for the 2024 men's soccer season.
Dominguez de Leon delivered the game-winning goal in the Generals' 2-1 victory over Texas A&M University-Texarkana in the RRAC Men's Soccer Championship quarterfinals. The junior forward from Madrid, Spain, blasted a shot from close range into the top of the net with 30 seconds left in the regulation. The opportunity was set up on a free kick from Romagnoli that was tapped to Dominguez de Leon by Adam Sherwood. It was his 10th goal of the season, which is fifth best in the conference. LSUA advances to the RRAC semifinals with a record of 12-4-3 on the season.
Silva earned the win in the Wildcats' 0-0 penalty kick shootout victory over Texas A&M University-San Antonio in the RRAC quarterfinals. The senior goalkeeper from Santa Maria da Feira, Portugal, kept TAMUSA scoreless with five saves over 110 minutes in goal, spanning regulation and two overtime periods. Silva stonewalled 3-of-9 shot attempts in the shootout to clinch the victory. He is third in the RRAC with a 1.06 goals against average. LCU also moves on to the RRAC semifinals at 12-4-3.
