OLLU's Fernandes, HT's Acosta awarded RRAC men's soccer weekly honors

WACO, Texas – Thiago Fernandes of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) was recognized as the RRAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 30-Oct. 6, while Juan Acosta of Huston-Tillotson University (Texas) claimed the RRAC Defensive Player of the Week award for the same dates. This is the seventh set of conference winners for the 2024 men's soccer season.

Fernandes racked up four goals and two assists as the Saints had a win and a draw in two conference matches last week. The junior forward from Brasilia, Brazil, netted two goals and chipped in an assist in a 3-3 tie with University of the Southwest (N.M.), and he had the same stat line in a 4-0 victory over Paul Quinn College (Texas). Fernandes climbed to fifth in the conference in goals (6) and points (15) this season. OLLU moved to 2-3-1 in conference play and 3-7-1 on the season.

Acosta led the Rams to a shutout and their first victory over the University of Houston-Victoria (Texas) since 2011. The junior goalkeeper from Austin made seven saves in a 2-0 win over the Jaguars. Acosta now has a 1.80 goals against average for the season. HT advanced to 1-3-1 in the RRAC and 2-3-2 overall.
