
UHV's Alva, Nichols lead Jaguars to victory, collect RRAC women's soccer weekly honors
WACO, Texas – Arantza Alva of the University of Houston-Victoria (Texas) garnered the RRAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award for Aug. 26-Sept. 1, while UHV's Hayli Nichols was honored as the RRAC Defensive player of the Week for the same dates. This is the second set of conference awards for the 2024 women's soccer season.
Alva netted the game-winning goal in the Jaguars' 1-0 victory over Nelson University (Texas) on Thursday. The sophomore midfielder from McAllen, Texas, scored in the 37th minute for her second career goal. UHV starts the season at 1-0.
Nichols produced a clean sheet to earn the win over NU. The senior goalkeeper from Forney, Texas, made a pair of saves to hold on to the shutout. Nichols started 10 matches last year and made 27 saves.
