Xavier's Bergaoui, Vazquez capture RRAC tennis weekly awards

WACO, Texas – Amira Bergaoui of Xavier University (La.) was selected as the RRAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for Feb. 19-25, while Xavier's Ivan Vazquez was recognized as the RRAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the same dates. This is the fourth set of weekly winners for the 2024 RRAC tennis season.

Bergaoui won both her matches in singles and both in doubles with three clinches as the Gold Nuggets went 2-0 last week. The freshman from Tunis, Tunisia, partnered with Valentina Largacha to clinch the doubles point against No. 22 Dillard University by rallying from down 3-0 to win, 7-6 (10-8). Bergaoui won at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-4, as Xavier won the tie, 4-3. Against No. 15 Loyola University (La.), Bergaoui and Largacha won again before Bergaoui clinched the dual with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 singles victory. Xavier is 6-2 this season and ranked third in the NAIA.

Vazquez posted 2-0 records in both singles and doubles with a pair of clinching victories during a 2-0 week for Gold Rush. The freshman from Cadiz, Spain, clinched the doubles point with Julius Hell by winning 6-1 against Lewis-Clark State College (Idaho). He also defeated Austin Swing of LCSC at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Against Loyola, Vazquez teamed up with Dedric Ray to win the doubles point, 6-4, and he won again at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-2. Xavier is 4-5 this season and ranked eighth in the NAIA. The victory against Loyola was the Gold Rush's 35^th straight at home, stretching back to April 2018.
