RRAC Tennis Operating Procedures

I. Rules

a. Rules governing play will be the International Tennis Association Rules with NAIA modifications. Rules modifications can be found in the NAIA Tennis Coaches Manual.

II. Regular Season Play

a. RRAC teams may create their own schedule with no requirements for conference teams to play head-to-head in the regular season.

III. Postseason Play

a. In seasons when there are six or more RRAC members that sponsor a men's team, the RRAC shall conduct a conference tournament. The same is true when there are six or more RRAC members sponsoring women's teams.

b. Every team that is sponsoring men's or women's tennis will qualify for the RRAC Championship tournament.

c. Member schools may bid on the opportunity to host an RRAC championship event. Bids may be made by April 1 of each year for the following year.

d. Tournaments will be structured with brackets and seedings based on regular season ratings and win percentage. Team matches will be played in a single-elimination format. For example, a six-team event will have #3 vs. #6 and #4 vs. #5 while the top two seeds have first-round byes.

e. When an RRAC championship event is held, the winning team will receive an automatic berth into the NAIA National Championship.

f. The RRAC will recognize a team champion from each RRAC Championship event.

g. In the event of inclement weather and in the case where the event may not be completed, the highest-ranked team in the most recent NAIA poll will receive the automatic qualification into the NAIA national tournament.

IV. Awards

a. Conference Champion will be the winning team at the RRAC Championship event. If there is not an event in a year when there are six or fewer participating teams, there will be no conference champion.

b. All-Conference Team will include a six-player first team and a six-player second team as determined by the RRAC tennis coaches. The conference SID will collect nominations from the coaches and distribute a ballot for voting prior to the conference tournament.

c. Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, and Freshman of the Year will be determined in a vote of RRAC tennis coaches.

d. Coach of the Year will be the coach of the team that wins the RRAC tournament.

d. Champions of Character - One player from each RRAC team will be selected by his or her coach and will receive an award as a member of the Champions of Character team. This will be a player who exemplifies the tenets of the NAIA Champions of Character program.

e. All-Tournament Team will include 13 players including an MVP that are selected by the coaches in attendance at the conference tournament. Selections will be distributed as follows based on tournament results: 4 for the champion, 3 for the runner-up, 2 for both teams that lost in the semifinals, and 1 for each team that lost in the quarterfinals.
