UHV's Capuchino, OLLU's Valadez brew up RRAC women's soccer weekly honors
WACO, Texas – Luz Capuchino of the University of Houston-Victoria (Texas) captured the RRAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week award for Sept. 9-15, while Samantha Valadez of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) was selected as the RRAC Defensive Player of the Week for the same dates. This is the fourth set of conference awards for the 2024 women's soccer season.
Capuchino was part of a stellar bench performance as the Jaguars knocked off Schreiner University (Texas), 3-1, on Friday. The freshman midfielder from Garland, Texas, netted the game-winning goal in the 71st minute and just two minutes after she entered the game. Capuchino added an assist eight minutes later with an assist on a free kick which defender Trine Stenderup-Jorgensen headed home to seal the win. UHV stayed unbeaten at 3-0 on the year.
Valadez guided the Saints to a 2-0 win over Schreiner last Monday. The senior goalkeeper from Houston posted her first shutout of the season with one save. Valadez's goals against average (1.00) is fourth best in the conference. OLLU is now 1-1-1 overall.
