UHV's Dakiche, Lerma stand out at Claud Jacobs Invitational, garner weekly golf awards

WACO, Texas – Enzo Dakiche of the University of Houston-Victoria (Texas) earned recognition as the RRAC Men's Golfer of the Week for Feb. 26-March 3, while UHV's Mia Lerma was named the RRAC Women's Golfer of the Week for the same dates. This is the second award of the 2024 RRAC golf season. 

Dakiche captured the individual title at UHV's Claud Jacobs Invitational last week. The sophomore from Paris, France, shot rounds of 66, 72 and 73 for a five-under par result on the Par 72 course at Victoria Country Club. Dakiche edged Texas Wesleyan University's Colin Price by two strokes and led the Jaguars to a second-place finish behind No. 9-ranked TWU. This was Dakiche's second career win and first since transferring to UHV from Wayland Baptist University (Texas). He led the field with eight birdies to shoot a career-best 66 in the opening round.

Lerma also achieved a career best round on the final day of the CJI event, posting her first-ever round under par. The senior from Mission, Texas, recorded a one-under 71 at the Par 72 track at The Club at Colony Creek in Victoria. Lerma (80-71/151) improved 10 places to finish third. The Jaguars improved 21 strokes in the final round to finish in a tie for second place with Rocky Mountain College (Mont.).
