OLLU's Hernandez, Xavier's Langa recognized as RRAC men's and women's tennis players of the week

WACO, Texas – Luis Hernandez of Our Lady of the Lake University (Texas) captured the RRAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week award for Feb. 12-18, while Mbali Langa of Xavier University (La.) was selected as the RRAC Women's Player of the Week for the same dates. This is the third set of weekly winners for the 2024 RRAC tennis season.

Hernandez led the Saints to a victory over 12^th-ranked University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) at the Georgia Gwinnett University Grizzly Invitational on Friday. The junior from Eagle Pass, Texas, won his singles match, 6-1, 6-2, and doubles with teammate Jaroslav Majsajdr, 6-1. Hernandez also won in singles and doubles in a team loss to Savannah College of Art and Design (Ga.), and took losses as OLLU fell to No. 1 GGU. The Saints are ranked 20^th nationally and hold a 5-9 record.

Langa was 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles with McKenna Wheatley as the Gold Nuggets won two road contests last week. The senior from Johannesburg, South Africa, won against NAIA No. 11 Middle Georgia State University, 6-1 in doubles and 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 in singles. Against Reinhardt University (Ga.), Langa claimed a 6-4 doubles win and a 6-4, 6-3 doubles victory. Xavier is ranked third in the nation with a 4-1 record.
